Emirates SkyCargo’s expansive route network extends further on WebCargo

Emirates SkyCargo is not just any airline. With 300+ destinations, over 270 aircraft, and 11 dedicated freighters, Emirates SkyCargo represents more than 5% of all capacity, worldwide.

And now forwarders will have access to real-time rates, capacity, and instant eBookings on Emirates flights from Australia and the US with this latest key route expansion on WebCargo.

This latest addition brings over 50% of total global air capacity live on WebCargo

Why does this matter to freight forwarders?

One word: time-saver. Forwarders with access to real-time rates and direct eBookings can deliver quicker, more accurate quotes to their shipper customers. But (and there’s always a but!), this is a symbiotic relationship, dependent on enough carrier capacity actually being available online, in order to provide the flexibility and optionality that creates the enhanced user experience and booking efficiency.

“Partnering with WebCargo enables us to improve access to our products and services, and provide a secure and convenient booking channel for our customers.  This is one of several initiatives in the pipeline as we work hard to ensure that every Emirates SkyCargo touchpoint, from booking to tracking to delivery, is a world class experience for our customers,” said Nabil Sultan, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo.

With the addition of one of the world’s largest airlines – Emirates SkyCargo – over 5% of global air cargo has come online, boosting that symbiotic relationship by allowing quick and easy direct access to the airline’s mammoth share of global cargo flights and inventory.

Successful digitalization: Interview with Matthew Scott, VP Pricing, Partnerships and Digitalisation at Emirates SkyCargo

What are the main challenges Emirates SkyCargo set out to address via digitization?

We’re seeking to enhance the end-to-end customer journey as it relates to all aspects of pricing, optimizing and booking by creating a seamless user experience that is accessible to all customers for all products. Ultimately, we’re promoting a solution that offers the right price to the right customer at the right time through the right channel.

What advantages has digital booking introduced for you and your customers?

Though on WebCargo for just a month so far, we’re already seeing efficiencies both at an outstation level as well as head office. Through eBookings, customers are receiving faster responses and more real time information, whilst our station staff are able to better service customer needs. We’re also seeing a shift to digital bookings in regions that have historically been quite manual, demonstrating a clear need from our customers to interact digitally.

Real time access to prices and capacity is a game changer. The manual booking process can be cumbersome and involve multiple phone calls and emails to price, make a booking and complete the transaction. A digital connection, whether via our website, a TMS or a 3rd party platform eliminates a lot of manual work and cost.

What challenges had to be overcome to make eBookings a success?

It was important for us to understand how our customers prefer to interact with us. That choice, however, comes with complexity. A lot of this technology is new to our industry and there is a lack of standards. This is both challenging and exciting as we create something new. Internally, user adoption and change management is a key focus area for us as we need to make sure our people are properly supported.
