Freightos Adds Otonomi Insurtech to WebCargo Services Portal, Bringing Cargo Delay Protection to Forwarders
WebCargo by Freightos, the leading global booking and payment platform for international freight, has partnered with Otonomi, a next-generation insurtech specializing in cargo delay insurance. Otonomi is now available in WebCargo by Freightos’ Services Portal, giving freight forwarders and shippers an easy, digital way to protect time-critical shipments against the financial impact of delays.
Cargo delays are one of the freight industry’s most stubborn legacy problems. Across air and ocean, disruptions and missed connections drive tens of billions of dollars in losses each year—yet traditional cargo and marine insurance typically excludes delay-related costs. Otonomi tackles that gap head-on with parametric delay insurance built for modern supply chains. Using data-driven underwriting and automated tracking, Otonomi brings forwarders a digital way to secure delay protection and receive fast, transparent payouts when predefined delay thresholds are met.
“Forwarders are already doing everything they can to keep cargo moving on time, but delays are still a reality and especially problematic for life sciences, perishables, automotive, aerospace, and other high-stakes shipments,” said Esen Dogan, VP, Global Head of Payments at Freightos. “By welcoming Otonomi into our Services Portal, we’re giving forwarders a simple way to add real delay protection to their toolkit, right alongside the digital workflows they rely on every day.”
Otonomi’s solution continuously monitors shipments and uses a proprietary parametric mechanism to make claims straightforward: if a delay is detected within the insured parameters, compensation is triggered without the traditional back-and-forth that characterizes legacy insurance processes. For forwarders, this can mean faster recovery from disruption costs such as spoilage, production penalties, business interruption, or strained consignee relationships—especially in lanes where even a 24-hour slip can ripple across an entire supply chain.
“We built Otonomi to solve what the market has ignored for centuries: delay risk,” said Yann Barbarroux, CEO and Founder of Otonomi. “Partnering with WebCargo by Freightos puts that protection where forwarders already operate digitally, and it helps bring a data-driven, automation-first insurance model to an industry that deserves better tools for managing disruption.”
This partnership represents an important first phase of collaboration, initially launching through the Services Portal. Both companies plan to explore deeper technical connectivity over time, including closer API alignment and deeper use of tracking and visibility data to enhance risk scoring and delay protection.
