Freight Market Update – October
Check out this month’s air cargo trends and insights presented by Judah Levine.
Webinar
In this month’s webinar, Judah Levine, Freightos’ Head of Research, breaks down what’s moving (and not moving) in air cargo – from tariff headlines to real capacity shifts and where rates are actually landing.
From transpacific softness and lane diversification to a late-breaking rate bump, here’s what’s shaping air cargo in October.
Highlights from This Month’s Update:
- Tariffs Heat Up
Trade tensions flare as the U.S. threatens 100% tariffs and China tightens rare-earth exports. Some shippers are fast-tracking goods by air ahead of November deadlines.
- Volumes Keep Climbing
Global air cargo volumes rose ~4% YoY in August and are up 3% YTD – steady resilience despite tariff noise and de minimis changes.
- Lanes on the Move
Asia→Europe traffic is booming (+13% YoY) as exports diversify. Transpacific volumes are down slightly but still strong as e-commerce adapts.
- Peak Season, Calmer Edition
No fireworks this time. Expect targeted e-commerce spikes and agile capacity shifts instead of a full-blown surge.
- Ops Watch
Minor congestion at U.S. airports from ATC delays – plan for a touch of slack in late-October and November schedules.
