What isn’t measured doesn’t change.
Welcome to the July 2024 edition of the WebCargo Digital Air Cargo (DAC) Monthly Report. Air cargo rates from China to North America and Europe eased slightly at the beginning of the month, but remain elevated at $5.58/kg and $3.38/kg, driven by sustained e-commerce demand during what is typically a slow season. Meanwhile, Middle East rates have started to rise, with a 5% increase to North America and a 10% increase to Europe, signaling the impact of worsening ocean disruptions.
In June, eBooking adoption continued to expand, as Air Canada Cargo launched capacity from Sweden and Puerto Rico on WebCargo. American Airlines Cargo opened from Denmark and Ireland, and Avianca Cargo activated pharma shipments across its network. CargoJet and MNG Airlines, via Skyline Air Services, launched in the Netherlands, Etihad Cargo launched from South Africa, Norse Atlantic Airways launched in Germany and Ireland, Qatar Airways Cargo opened routes from Portugal and Virgin Atlantic launched from Ireland. Singapore Cargo launched in nine countries across Europe, Thai Cargo launched in Japan, Switzerland, Thailand and UK for WebCargo Pay, and Turkish Cargo enabled non-stackable cargo eBookings to its entire WebCargo network.
This month’s report features Q+A with Eyal Goldberg, CEO and Co-founder of digital freight insurance provider, Breeze, which recently launched an integration with WebCargo, where he discusses the key benefits for forwarders when integrating third-party providers with digital platforms like WebCargo, how insurance integration fits within the broader trend of digitalization in forwarding, and how innovation figures in highly regulated industries like freight and insurance.
