What isn’t measured doesn’t change.
Welcome to the June edition of the WebCargo Digital Air Cargo (DAC) monthly report.
What’s Inside?
The US de minimis suspension for Chinese goods went into effect May 2nd and has led to a sharp drop in China-US e-commerce volumes and freighter capacity. But as most e-comm was going by charters, and as lower US tariffs on China went into effect in mid-May and may expire in August, Freightos Air Index transpacific spot rates have remained above $5.15/kg. This rate level is supported by some ocean to air shift and frontloading ahead of the August deadline, and has remained elevated even as some freighter capacity is being added back to the lane.
In May, airlines continued expanding eBooking capabilities on WebCargo across global markets. Air Menzies International (AMI) launched from the UK, while NFL Aviation and KUB Air Cargo also joined the platform from Amsterdam. American Airlines Cargo added routes from Greece and Sweden, and Cargolux expanded with services in South Korea and Singapore, plus a weight increase to 1,000 kg in France and Italy. Etihad Cargo launched in the Czech Republic and Poland, and Qatar Airways Cargo introduced Q Prime services in India and Italy. SAS Cargo added Copenhagen to Seattle, and Simple Cargo (on behalf of China Cargo Airlines) launched from Amsterdam to Shanghai. Silk Way West Airlines opened routes from Turkey, Singapore Airlines Cargo expanded in Finland and Austria, and Swiss WorldCargo launched routes from Vancouver. China Airlines was also announced as coming soon to WebCargo!
